What is hair thinning or loss?

Hair thinning or loss, also known as alopecia, can significantly impact your perspective on health and well-being. Hair loss can negatively affect your psychosocial health and may sometimes be a symptom of an undiagnosed or poorly managed medical condition. Alopecia can affect your scalp and entire body and can be temporary or permanent, depending on the root cause.

Key Aspects of Hair Health

Hair thinning and loss as a result of these four contributing factors

Heredity

Some sources of hair loss are hereditary. At the Garcia Centers, we offer personalized DNA tests to identify hereditary issues causing your hair loss, allowing us to target the root cause effectively.

Medical Conditions

Certain medical conditions and medications can cause hair loss or thinning. Conditions like thyroid disease can lead to thinning, brittle hair, and overall volume loss

Hormonal Changes

Hormonal changes can increase hair loss in both men and women. We offer personalized treatments and devices to manage and maintain healthy hair growth, including oral and topical medications. For women, hormonal imbalances can also affect hair retention. We provide baseline lab comparisons and personalized DNA testing to address specific needs.

Aging Journey

Hair loss or thinning is often a normal part of aging, more prevalent in men than women.

Understanding Hair Cycles, Hormonal Changes and Age Impacts

Hair follicle growth cycle consists of four main phases:

  1. Anagen (Growth Phase): This is the active growth phase where hair follicles produce new hair. It typically lasts between 2 to 6 years. About 90% of the hair on your scalp is in this phase at any given time.
  2. Catagen (Transition Phase): This short phase lasts about 2 weeks. During this time, hair growth slows, and the hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla.
  3. Telogen (Resting Phase): Lasting 5-6 weeks, this phase is when hair growth stops, and the follicle remains dormant. Approximately 10-15% of your hair is in this phase at any moment.
  4. Exogen (Shedding Phase): Often considered part of the telogen phase, this is when old hair sheds and new hair begins to grow. On average, people shed about 50 to 100 hairs daily during this phase.

Testimonials

"I am so glad that I was directed to Imee through Florida Orthopedic. She and the women there are priceless and helped me reach beyond my goal weight. Now I have a new goal since the first goal was so successful. Since then I have also branched out to use their Sunetics and PRP for hair loss and also receive hormone injections. I travel to Carrollwood, South Tampa and Brandon for the various services simply because I miss seeing all the women in one place like I did when they were all together at FOI, not to mention that Garcia Weight Loss and all the services they have to offer are worth it. ❤️"
